MAPLETON, Iowa -- Rolland G. Johnson, 72, of Mapleton died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, at his residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, with the Rev. Bob Fritzmeier officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496 of Mapleton. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Rolland George Johnson was born Nov. 4, 1930, in Woodbine, Iowa, the son of George and Marie (Mulvihull) Johnson. He moved with his family to Mapleton. He served his country in the U.S. Army in the Korean War.
In November 1955, he married Glenda Norton Sanders. He started to work for Van Buskirk Construction Company of Sioux City, having lived in Wellington, Kan., Missouri Valley, Iowa and in Mapleton for the last five years.

Survivors include his mother, Marie Johnson of Mapleton; his companion, Judy Rus of Mapleton; a son, George Johnson of Wellington, Kan.; a daughter and her husband, Helen and Troy Jones of Kansas; two sisters and their husbands, Sharon and Dewey D'Ercole of Omaha and Linda and Doug Hines of Aurelia, Iowa; two brothers-in-law, Bernard Andrews of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Clyde Welch of Harlan, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Johnson; and two sisters, Thelma Andrews and Christina Welch.
