ONAWA, Iowa -- Dike Edward Spaan, 51, of Onawa died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at First Christian Church in Onawa, with the Revs. Dennis Olsen and Doug Handeland officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Dike Edward Spaan was born Oct. 4, 1951 in Cherokee, Iowa, the son of Dale and Jan (Swab) Spaan. He graduated from Paullina High School and then studied welding at Northwest Iowa Vocational School.
He married Peg Busch in Paullina on Aug. 3, 1974. The couple lived in Ashland, Neb. from 1981 until 1991, when they moved to Onawa. He worked on his dad's farm for a few years and then was employed as a pipeline technician for MidAmerica Pipeline and Williams Pipeline.

Survivors include his wife, Peg of Onawa; a son, Joel of Des Moines, Iowa; a daughter, Kelly of Omaha, Neb.; their family dog, Maggie; his mother-in-law, Maxine Busch of Paullina, Iowa, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Larry and Janice Feldotto of Paullina, Dan and Barb Mott of Cherokee, Iowa and Mike Busch of Sioux Falls, S.D.; three nephews; and a special friend, Doris Wagner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his father-in-law, Alan Busch.
