BLENCOE, Iowa -- Ignac Andrew Pekarek, 93, of Blencoe died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003 at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Blencoe, with the Rev. Harry D. McAlpine officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Blencoe. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a Scripture wake service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Ignac was born July 31, 1910 to Frank and Frances (Svoboda) Pekarek on a farm near Weston, Neb. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Vita Church in Touhy, Neb. He attended public schools in Saunders County until 8th grade. He then farmed with his dad at Weston.
On Oct. 15, 1935, he marred Gertrude Stanislav, the daughter of John and Gertrude (Helcher) Stanislav, at St. Mary's Church at Davy, Neb. The couple farmed in Nebraska until 1937, when dry weather forced them to move to Iowa. They lived on several farms in Monona County until they bought a farm in Sherman Township, where he lived until entering Elmwood Care Centre in April of 1998.

He was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church at Blencoe and Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Mahlon and Audrey, Rogene and Jean and Terry and Julie; four grandchildren, Lynne and Mike Belknap, Robert and Lori Pekarek and Angie and Thomas Pekarek; three great-grandchildren, Whitney, Jaden and Ashton; three sisters, his twin, Helen Bartek of Lincoln, Neb., and Blanche Bouc and Emma Malousek, both of Wahoo, Neb.; a brother, Frank of David City, Neb.; a brother-in-law and his wife, Leo and Betty Stanislav of Blencoe, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; and his parents.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
