ONAWA, Iowa -- Tom Hogan, 38, of Onawa died unexpectedly Monday, June 30, 2003, near Onawa.

Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, with a Scripture prayer service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Harry D. McAlpine officiating, at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Church in McHenry, Ill. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Johnsburg, Ill. Visitation with a Scripture service will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Colonial Funeral Home in McHenry, Ill.

Tom was born Aug. 19, 1964, in Elgin, Ill., the son of Gerald and Ruth Ann (Schoenholtz) Hogan. He graduated from Johnsburg High School in 1982. He was a self-employed building contractor and owned and operated Thomas Construction in McHenry, Ill. He moved to Onawa in 1991, where he owned and operated Thomas Hogan Construction and Traditional Home Builders. He also was a farmer.
He married Chris Fletcher Rustin on Aug. 6, 1999, in Elk Point, S.D.

He was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Onawa, Knights of Columbus and Sioux City Chamber of Commerce. He was a loving husband and father.

Survivors include his wife, Chris of Onawa; a son, Nickolas Jon Hogan of Onawa; and daughter, Hailey Kristine Hogan of Onawa; stepchildren, Shane (Stephanie) Rustin of New Ulm, Minn., and Melia (Jon) Cooper of Pope Air Force Base, N.C.; a granddaughter, Alexis Ann Rustin; his mother and stepfather, Ruth Ann and Leon Schmitt of McHenry, Ill.; a sister and her husband, Felicia and Paul Kiely of Coatesville, Pa.; stepbrothers and stepsisters, Douglas (Kathy) Schmitt of Lakewood, Ill., Kimberly (Rick) Huber of McHenry, Ill., Heidi Schmitt of Chicago, Ill., William (Kristynn) Schmitt of Wadsworth, Ill., Andrew (Debbie) Schmitt of McHenry and Sheila (Mark) Quinlan of Marengo, Ill.; a nephew, Jack Kiely; an uncle and aunt, Harry and Georgia Hogan of Ringwood, Ill.; an uncle, Jack Schoenholtz of Grayslake, Ill.; and many other aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Hogan in 1982; and his grandparents, John and Ila Hogan and Mervin and Marion Schoenholtz.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Thomas Hogan Children's Memorial, 1810 N. Riverside Dr., McHenry, IL 60050.
