MAPLETON, Iowa -- Bruce E. Schelm, 41, of Gillette, Wyo., formerly of Mapleton, passed away Tuesday, July 1, 2003, of injuries suffered in a one-vehicle car accident.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Chapel of Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home in Gillette.

Mr. Schelm was born Nov. 27, 1961, in Battle Creek, the son of Edward "Buzz" and Anita Rose Schelm. He went to school in Mapleton, Iowa. After graduation, he joined the National Guard and then moved to Arkansas. He lived there for 15 years, then moved to Wyoming.
He married Lori A. Nelson in Gillette on Oct. 28, 2000. He was working for Mechanical Advantage at the time of his death.

He enjoyed the outdoors, tinkering on cars and other equipment, camping and spending time with his family. He was always a giving person of himself, whether it was time, support or friendship.

He is survived by his wife of Gillette; two sons, Michael Schelm and Nicholas Schelm, both of Arkansas; two stepsons, Kyle Nelson and Cody Nelson, both of Gillette; two stepdaughters, Jenna Nelson and Shannon Nelson, both of Gillette; his parents of Mapleton, Iowa; two brothers, Brett Schelm of Oto, Iowa, and Brian Schelm and his wife, Terri of Hornick, Iowa; his grandfather, Edward Schelm of Ute, Iowa; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, paternal grandmother, an aunt and a cousin.

A memorial will be established for an education fund for the children. Donations may be sent in care of the family to the Stevenson-Wilson Funeral Home, 210 W. Fifth St., Gillette, WY 82716.
