MAPLETON, Iowa -- Stella V. Fredrickson, 92, of Mapleton died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2003, at Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center in Correctionville, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Danbury United Methodist Church in Danbury, Iowa, with the Rev. Kathy Olson officiating. Burial will be in Liston Township Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., a prayer service at 7 p.m. followed by a service conducted by American Legion Auxiliary Henry McKenna Unit 651 of Oto, Iowa, all at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Stella Viola Fredrickson was born April 20, 1910, on a farm near Danbury, the daughter of Charles and Nellie (Davis) Bumsted. She attended Danbury Catholic School until she was needed at home to help care for her brothers and sisters. She worked for the Bill Jansen family near Battle Creek, Iowa, where she met her husband-to-be in 1930.
On Feb. 16, 1931, she married George T. Fredrickson in Ida Grove. The couple farmed northwest of Danbury for 41 years. They then retired and stayed on the farm until 1978, when they moved to Mapleton. George passed away Sept. 18, 1985, in Sioux City. She entered Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center in April 2000.

She was a member of United Methodist Church in Danbury and United Methodist Women. She was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Henry V. McKenna Unit 651 of Oto, where she held various offices over the years. She enjoyed spending time with her family. Her favorite pastimes were playing cards, making Cleghorn cookies and making dinner rolls for family gatherings. She also enjoyed gardening when she lived on the farm.

Survivors include a daughter, Louella Collins of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Kenneth and Beverly Fredrickson of Moville, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Earl and Beverly Bumsted of Ute, Iowa; four grandsons, Bradley Collins and his wife, Joan of Hinton, Iowa, Brian Collins and his wife, Kris of Sioux City, Bruce Collins and his wife, Jody of Sioux City, and Deron Fredrickson of Moville; four great-grandchildren, David, Dustin, Ryan and Ashley Collins; three sisters-in-law, Helen Bumsted of Mapleton, Helene Bumsted of Ute, and Barbara Bumsted of Moville; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Mary in infancy, Nellie and Lucile Christophersen; six brothers, Gaylord, Charles, Roy, Glen, Lloyd and Floyd Bumsted; and a son-in-law, Keith Collins.

Pallbearers will be her four grandsons and honorary pallbearers will be her four great-grandchildren.
