ONAWA, Iowa -- Helen M. Allen, 92, of Onawa died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, Iowa, with the Rev. Dennis Olsen officiating. Burial will be in Kennebec Cemetery, near Castana, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.

Helen May Allen was born May 29, 1910, near Moorhead, Iowa, the daughter of Perry and Rada (Treft) Moore. She grew up and attended school in the Moorhead area. She married Clark Meeker and to this union a son, Raymond Meeker, was born.
On June 14, 1937, she was united in marriage to Robert Allen in Onawa, where the couple then resided. Along with caring for her family, she also worked at the E&R Cafe in Onawa. She was later employed at the Onawa Cafe, where she worked until the age of 75. Robert passed away Sept. 17, 1977.

She was a member of First Christian Church in Onawa. She loved flowers and gardening, as well as the time she could find to crochet, especially afghans and doilies. She had a special love in her heart for her grandchildren. While in the nursing home in recent years, her greatest pleasure was having her hair done every week.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include a son and his wife, Floyd and Patty Allen of Onawa; four daughters, June Ottman of Onawa, Dora Ham and her special friend, Marlo Tipton, of Tekamah, Neb., Sandra and her husband, Roger Davis, of Castana, Iowa, and Joyce Allen of Glenwood, Iowa; two sisters, Ella Mortensen of Denison, Iowa, and Erma Davis of Missouri; 24 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Along with her husband, Robert, she was also preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Rose; a son, Raymond Meeker; a grandson, Blain Fox; two brothers and two sisters.
