WHITING, Iowa -- Harold A. Pixler, 77, of Whiting died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at First Congregational Church in Whiting, with the Rev. Reva B. Karstens officiating. Burial will be in Hite Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Harold was born Nov. 23, 1925, in Sioux City, the son of Arthur H. and Lydia S. (Lander) Pixler. He lived his entire life in the Whiting community, where he graduated from Whiting High School in 1943. He later attended classes at Western Iowa Tech Community College.
He married Alice L. Marshall on April 29, 1951, in Moorhead, Iowa. Four children were born to this union. He farmed for 24 years and was employed with Zenith for more than 11 years. He also was employed with Western Iowa Tech Community College for eight years and raised cattle until 1980.

He was a member of First Congregational Church for more than 50 years, a 50-year member and past Master of Weston Lodge 562 A.F. & A.M. in Whiting, and a 53-year member of Sioux City Consistory and 21st Degree Team. He was a member of Sioux City York Rite Bodies, Sunnyside Chapter DeMolay advisor, Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader, Siouxland Iris Society and organized the Monona County Young Democratic Club and served as chairman in 1954.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; three sons and their wives, Art and Chris of Fenton, Iowa, Russ and Wendy of Ames, Iowa, and Mark and Diane of Albion, Iowa; a daughter, Ann Pixler of South Sioux City, and her fiance, John Owen; and seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Sean, Caitlin, Matthew, Megan, Jonathan and Kirsten Pixler.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Patrick Pixler.
