CASTANA, Iowa -- Louise (Nutt) Villeneuve, 86, of Yorba Linda, Calif., formerly of Castana, passed away after a long and fruitful life on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2002, in Orange County, Calif., one day before her 87th birthday.

Services will be 2 p.m. today at Castana Community Church, with the Rev. Bob Fritzmeier officiating. Burial will be in Kennebec Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Louise, or "Babe" as she was affectionately known by all her Iowa relatives, was born Dec. 30, 1915, in Castana, the daughter of Robert V. and Betty Alice (McCall) Nutt. She graduated from Castana High School in the early 1930s. After high school, she attended cosmetology school and graduated in 1939. She immediately opened her own beauty salon. Shortly after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941, she moved to California to help in the war effort.
There she met her husband, David Villeneuve and they were married in 1944. One year later, she had her first child, Donald. At the time she was raising her son and attending college classes. She eventually earned a degree in child development and a lifetime community college teaching credential.

In 1956 her daughter, Carol, was born and a short time later she opened her own preschool in Santa Ana, Calif. She later opened a second school in Yorba Linda. She loved early childhood education while working in the field for more than 40 years.

Always remembering her roots, she visited her family in Iowa often by car, train or airplane. She always enjoyed peaceful summers in Castana near her loved ones.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Carol and Skip Passmore of Visalia, Calif.; a grandson, Jeffrey; four granddaughters, Laura Allen and Courtney, Aubrey and Brittany Eileen Passmore; three great-grandchildren, Allie, Cassidy and Bailey Riggs; a sister, Eileen Reed of Turin, Iowa; and three brothers, Bill Nutt of Sioux City, Ernest "Hickory" Nutt and Robert E. Nutt, both of Castana.

She was preceded in death by her son, Donald.
