ONAWA, Iowa -- Neola J. Greenough, 85, of Onawa, formerly of Mapleton, Iowa, died Friday, July 11, 2008, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, with the Rev. Catie Newman officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Monday at the funeral home.

Neola Jeannetta Greenough was born Sept. 19, 1922, to Hans Peter and Mary (Saline) Jensen, in rural Soldier, Iowa. She was a graduate of the Monona County rural school system at the age of 14.
On Oct. 1, 1938, she married Charles Greenough in Sioux City. They lived and farmed on a number of farms in Monona County, Iowa, for 26 years. After their retirement in 1965, they moved to Mapleton. Where after Charles' death in 1966, she, as a single parent, raised her three youngest children, Donald, Pat and Janet, to adulthood while working full-time for various hardware stores in Mapleton.

She is survived by two sisters, Norma Jebsen of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Pearl June of Sioux City; seven children, Roger (Arlene) of Slater, Iowa, Eugene (Elaine) of Mapleton, Letty (Robert) Szabo of Sacramento, Calif., Lyle (Ruth) of Waterbury, Neb., Donald (Patty) of Hastings, Neb., Pat of Valentine, Neb., and Janet (Lee) Stukenholtz of Onawa; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Roger Peasley.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Orval and Ardell; two sisters, Azelia and Elvena; and a grandson, Brian Greenough.
