Charles L. Polacek, a longtime resident of the Castana and Jordan communities passed from this life at the Burgess Memorial Hospital in Onawa on Saturday, March 4, 1972 at the age of 76 years, 2 months and 10 days. He had been in failing health for several months.

Mr. Polacek was born December 24, 1895 at Portland, Missouri, a son of Joseph and Margaret Polacek. He came to Monona County in 1911 where he engaged in farming and for many years was engaged in the selling of livestock feed.
On January 16, 1916 he was united in marriage to Lyla Belle McCall at Sioux City, Iowa. Mrs. Polacek died May 17, 1970. They had celebrated their 50th wedding Anniversary in 1966.

Mr. Polacek is survived by a step-son, Glenn McCall of Castana and two step-grandchildren, Ronnie McCall of Onawa and Mrs. Arthur (Glenda) Fritz if Sioux City, Iowa. Six step-great grandchildren. Two brothers, Joseph Polacek of Fulton, Missouri and Fred Polacek of Mokana, Missouri. A number of nieces and nephews. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, 6 sisters and one brother.

Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7, 1972 at the Pearson Funeral Chapel in Onawa with the Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. Evan Davies sang "The Old Rugged Cross," and "Beyond The Sunset," accompanied by Mrs. Davies. Bearers were Marvin McCall, Rollie Brink, Everett Struble, Walter Hadden, Wayne McCall and Park Strubble. Interment was in Jordan Cemetery with arrangements by the Pearson Funeral Home in Onawa.
