Evelyn R. Uhl, 89, of Sioux City died Saturday, June 23, 2007, at Westwood Nursing & Rehab Center after a short illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Michael Erpelding officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.

Evelyn was born March 16, 1918, in Danbury, Iowa, the daughter of John F. and Anna (Hupke) Mohrhauser. She attended school in Mapleton, Iowa.
She married Leo G. Uhl on Nov. 26, 1936, in Mapleton. Mr. Uhl died Feb. 23, 1998. Evelyn had lived in Sioux City since 1936. She was employed at Armour Packing Plant for several years, Sioux City Battery for 10 years and then at Johnson Biscuit Co. for 18 years. She retired in 1975.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the ladies Guild. She was a retired member of Bakers Local 433. Evelyn enjoyed woodworking, fishing with her husband, baking and spending time with her four sons and their families.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, Arvin and Donna Uhl of Sioux City, Kenneth and Sally Uhl of Sioux City, Larry and Sylvia Uhl of rural Merrill, Iowa, and Thomas and Kathy Uhl of rural Merrill; a brother, Carl Mohrhauser of Mapleton, Iowa; two sisters, Arleen Hendricksen of Mapleton, Iowa and Anna Marie "Blondie" Streeter and her husband, Warren of Rapid City, S.D.; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and many great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter-in-law, Rose Mary Uhl; a granddaughter, Lori Moos; two brothers, Joseph and Edwin "Jeff"; and three sisters, Devota Smith, Joann Mohrhauser and Edna Moore.

Pallbearers will be Mark Uhl, Christopher Uhl, Thomas Uhl, Robert Uhl, Jeffery Uhl and Dwight Hearing. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
