Gerald Obrist, was born October 31, 1907 at Gresham, Nebraska, and passed from this life in Central City, Nebraska on January 2, 1977. Death came at the age of 77 years.On June 1, 1930, he was united in marriage with Hazel Skidmore at Holyoke, Colorado. To this union were born one son and two daughters.
He attended school in the Gresham area. He farmed in the Stromsburg, Osceola communities until 1961, when they moved to Central City. They owned and operated the Central Motel until 1964. He was employed in the Central City area until recently when he retired.
Survivors include his widow Hazel; one one and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Obrist, Jr. of Geneva, Nebraska; two daughters and sons-in=law, Mr. and Mrs. Earl (Bernice) Thelander of Onawa, Iowa; and Mr. and Mrs. Lee (Carolyn) Cain of Gresham, Nebraska; one brother, Harry Obrist of Stromsburg, Nebraska; one sister, Mrs. Mabel Hager of Lincoln and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one grandson.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 4th at 2:00 p.m. at the Solt Funeral Home in Central City, with Rev. Bonnie Gilmer of Utica officiating. The organist was Mrs. Stanley Torpin. Mrs. LeRoy Kleue accompanied soloist Harold Wochner in the selections. "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art."
Pallbearers were Gary Corn, Douglas Thelander, Byron Thelander, Gaylen Thelander, Harold Gray and Douglas Miller. Interment was at the Central City Cemetery.
