MAPLETON, Iowa -- Earl L. Marsh, 81, of Mapleton died Saturday, July 13, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's United Methodist Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Fred Pilecki officiating. Burial will be in Grant Township Cemetery, near Rodney, Iowa, with military rites conducted by American Legion Loren Hollister Post 496 of Mapleton. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Earl Leroy Marsh was born Dec. 20, 1920, in Collis, Minn., the son of Ted and Anna (Johnson) Marsh. He moved to Iowa with his parents in 1932. He received his education in Minnesota and Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II for 18 months.

He spent his life working on a farm and later farming for himself. He liked the farm and livestock and also enjoyed working with wood.

He is survived by three sisters, Rosella Marsh of Mapleton, Eleanor Martin of Pearcy, Ark., and Lorraine and her husband, Roger Weinbrandt of Denison, Iowa; three brothers, Norman of Centralia, Mo., Everett and his wife, Evonne of Sioux City, and Dale and his wife, Judie of Wall Lake, Iowa; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Robert; a sister and her husband, Darlene and Vernon Schiltz; a brother-in-law, Lawrence Martin; and a sister-in-law, Louise Marsh.
