ONAWA, Iowa -- Carl J. Rickabaugh, 66, of Onawa died peacefully with his children by his side Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, with Bishop Don Hoferitza officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, and will resume Tuesday from 9 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Mr. Rickabaugh was born, March 8, 1935, in Hornick, Iowa, the son of Earl and Gladys (Gross) Rickabaugh. He graduated from Onawa High School in 1953, and immediately joined the U.S. Navy and then the U.S. Air Force, totaling nine and a half years. After his discharge, he worked at J.I. Case Company for 35 years, traveling worldwide.

He was very active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where for two years he worked closely with young men, 12 to 16 years of age. He was very compassionate, giving and always concerned about others before himself. He performed many hours of service for others.

He was a very devoted, loving, hardworking son, brother and father to four children, Craig Calder and his wife, Kathy of Memphis,Tenn., Cristi and her husband, Lorne Morey of Akron, Iowa, Cory Rickabaugh of Fulton, Mo., and Carl Rickabaugh of Salt Lake City, Utah.

He enjoyed music, square dancing, fishing with his dad and brother, and working on genealogy. He loved life and lived his life for his children and grandchildren.

Survivors in addition to his children are his father, Earl of Onawa (who died Dec. 14, 2001); a sister and her husband, Neva and Pete Dicks of Greenville, Texas; two brothers, Leland Rickabaugh and his wife, Cathy of Whiting, Iowa, and Tim Rickabaugh of Onawa; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

Carl will be sadly missed by family, friends and anyone whose life he touched. We will ever be blessed for having him be part of our lives. He passed courageously after a very long illness.
