John Kirkpatrick

ONAWA, Iowa - John Kirkpatrick, 83, of Turner, Ore., formerly of Onawa, died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001 at Turner.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Rush Family Chapel, Onawa, with the Rev. Donald R. Ludwick officiating. Burial will be in the Onawa Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Kirkpatrick was born Jan. 10, 1918 at Turin, Iowa, the son of Harvey and Ella (Gearans) Kirkpatrick. He married Esther Gross on March 24, 1939 in South Sioux City. She died May 1, 1978 in Onawa. He served in the U.S. Army from March of 1944 to May of 1946. He operated a dragline for years and was later a carpenter. He moved to Oregon in 1981. He married Alva June Lyons Nov. 15, 1984 at Carson City, Nev. The couple lived in Turner for the past 18 years.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Cynthia and her husband, Harold Fitzgerald, of Pine Bluff, Ark., Linda and her husband, Lee Goss, of Meridian, Idaho, and Brenda Sorenson of Onawa; two sons, Russell and his wife, Janet, of Missouri Valley and Lee and his special friend, Julee Shook ,of Onawa; two stepdaughters, Jo Ann and her husband, Denny Loe, of Salem, Ore., and Shirley and her husband, Lester, Stinson of Bend, Ore.; a stepson, Larry Lyons and his wife of Prineville, Ore.; a sister, Dorothy King of Seattle, Wash., and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Myron Cole and Dennis Sorenson, a granddaughter, Lynnette Lander; three brothers, Clarence, Walter and Elzie; and six sisters, Anna, Rose, Etta, Clara, Mildred and Margaret.
