WHITING, Iowa - Andrew Emanuel Snethen, 85, of Whiting, formerly of Sloan, Iowa, died Monday, July 23, 2001, at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting.

Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at First Christian Church in Sloan, with Dr. Emery Killian officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Wood Funeral Home in Sloan.

Mr. Snethen was born July 5, 1916, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the son of Clyde and Myrtle (Reusch) Snethen. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs.

He married Helen Wright on Oct. 9, 1938, in Council Bluffs. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed as a sheet metal worker with North American Rockwell. In 1955, the couple moved to California and in 1979, they moved to Vermont. In 1982, they moved to Sloan.

He was a member of First Christian Church and enjoyed fishing, golfing, woodworking and quilting.

Survivors include his wife; three sons, Eric and his wife, Amber of Searchlight, Nev., David of Santa Ana, Calif., and Kent of Sacramento, Calif.; two daughters, Kathy and her husband, Edward O'Toole of Storm Lake, Iowa, and Nancy Snethen of Sloan; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Fern Thoreen of Little River, Kan., May Arrick of Honey Creek, Iowa, and Dolly Wren of Oxnard, Calif.; and a brother, Walter of Council Bluffs.
