BLENCOE, Iowa - Arlene Veronica Jirovsky, 83, of Blencoe died Monday, July 23, 2001, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Blencoe, with the Rev. Frank Nemmers officiating. Private burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a Scripture prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa.

Mrs. Jirovsky was born June 27, 1918, in Howells, Neb., the daughter of George and Ruby (Newburn) Muller. She attended schools in Lincoln and Elmwood, Neb. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1939. She attended Van Sant Business School in Omaha, and later night classes at the University of Nebraska and Creighton University.

She married C.E. Jerry Jirovsky on Feb. 19, 1944.

She was employed as a secretary with Father Flannagan's Boy's Town, Herman Kully M.D., Medical Arts Building in Omaha, Vocational Education Department, State Capitol Building in Lincoln, and as a policy writer with Grain Dealers Mutual Insurance Co. in Omaha.

She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, where she served as president and vice president of the Rosary Society. She served as secretary and president of Southwest Deanery of Diocesan Conference of Catholic Women. She was a Brownie leader and organized and managed the Blencoe Dance Club. She also served as vice president and president of Monona County Genealogical Society.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Constance and her husband, Gary Ostedt of Corral de Toerra, Calif., Theresa and her husband, Willem Van Es of New York City, and Victoria DeWitt of San Rafael, Calif.; two grandchildren, Eilliam Ostedt and Devon Yates; a great-grandson; a sister-in-law and her husband, Helen and Ernest Petersen of Omaha; and many nieces and nephews.
