MAPLETON, Iowa - Ralph L. Scoles, 89, of Mapleton died Monday, May 21, 2001, at Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton, with the Rev. Shirley Textor officiating. Burial will be in St. Clair Cemetery, Ute, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the funeral home.

Mr. Scoles was born Aug. 22, 1911, in Mapleton, the son of Oliver and Lillian (Hars) Scoles. He was raised in the Mapleton area and graduated from Mapleton High School in 1930.

He married Elizabeth Henry on July 7, 1930, in Canton, S.D. He was employed as a tank wagon driver with Standard Oil Co. in the Ute area. He was a barber in Onawa, Ute, Soldier and Mapleton, Iowa. His wife died Nov. 26, 1981.

He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church, Masons, Mapleton Rotary Club and Mapleton Community Club.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Roger and Ruth of Bella Vista, Ark., and Grant and Shirley of Mapleton; six grandchildren, Mark, Brian and Brad Scoles, Kristin Hase, Kelly Muxlox and Peggy Hanner; and six great-grandchildren.
