CASTANA, Iowa - Les F. Dobrovolny, 73, of Castana died Thursday, May 17, 2001, at his home.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Castana Community Church, with the Rev. Robert Fritz-meier officiating. There will be no visitation. Arrangements are under the direction of Rush Family Care Service of Onawa, Iowa.

Mr. Dobrovolny was born May 12, 1928, in Fremont, Neb., the son of Frank and Ida (Hespen) Dobrovolny. He moved with his family to Castana in 1942, and graduated from Castana High School in 1945. He was a lifelong farmer in the Castana area. He married Norma Jean Bouslaugh in 1946 in Onawa. He married Phyllis Kisling on Jan. 26, 1968, in Fremont.

He was a past master of Hillcrest Lodge AF & AM at Castana and a member of the Abu Bekr Shrine Temple in Sioux City, where he belonged to the Clown Unit.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Gwen Dobrovolny of Los Angeles, Calif., and Janet and her husband, John Noe of Allen, Neb.; a son and his wife, Bruce and Kari of Sioux City; a daughter-in-law, Lynette Dobrovolny of Mapleton, Iowa; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters and their husbands, Mildred and John Elias of Woodland Hills, Calif., and Mary and Larry Mersereau of Onamia, Minn.; three sisters-in-law, Marjorie Dinger of Kaysville, Utah, Elva Weyant of Baldwin Park, Calif., and Alene Kisling of Elliott, Md.; three brothers-in-law, Fred Kisling of Castana, Gerald Thorson of Hinton, Iowa, and Damon Humphreys of Pennsville, N.J.; and a family friend, Fran Rieff of Onawa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Tom, and a brother, Donald.
