ONAWA, Iowa -- Clifford Hugh Young, 75, of Onawa passed away Sunday, March 16, 2003, following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Onawa United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Chuck Layton officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Cliff was born March 10, 1928, in Sioux City, the only child of Dr. C.W. and Mildred (Grant) Young of Onawa. He graduated from Onawa Public High School and the University of Iowa.

He married Ruth Ann Juffer on June 10, 1952, in Ireton, Iowa.

He spent his entire career of 40 years at Onawa State Bank, serving in various capacities, including executive vice president and chairman of the board of directors. He also served as chairman of Group 1 of the Iowa Banker's Association, as well as a member of the Iowa Banker's Association Council.

He enjoyed being involved in community service for the city of Onawa. He was a former president of the Onawa Chamber of Commerce, vice president of the Onawa Development Corporation, board member and former president of the Onawa Public Library, board member of the Burgess Memorial Hospital investment committee, West Monona School Board treasurer, and treasurer of the city of Onawa. He also was a past president of the Kiwanis Club and board member and trustee of United Methodist Church. He was a member of Vesper Lodge 223 A.F. & A.M. His greatest pleasures were his family, grandchildren, friends, camping, traveling and his winter home in Mission, Texas.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Ruth; a son and his wife, William and Jill Young of Le Mars, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Sally and Dr. Mark Dominick of Evansville, Ind.; his grandchildren, J.T., Katie and Jason Dominick of Evansville, Ind., Ben and Kay Young of Onawa, and Sam and Jacob Young of Le Mars; and a great-granddaughter, Madison of Onawa.

Memorials can be made to Burgess Hospice, the Onawa Public Library Capital Campaign or Onawa United Methodist Church.
