CASTANA, Iowa -- Todd E. Melby, 40, of Castana died Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, due to injuries sustained removing trees for the city of Moorhead, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Soldier Lutheran Church in Soldier, Iowa, with Pastor Meggan Manlove officiating. Burial will be in Center Cemetery at Castana. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa, Iowa.

Todd was born Feb. 14, 1967, at Onawa, the son of Eugene and Shirley (McCall) Melby. He lived in the Castana area and graduated from Maple Valley High School with the class of 1985. He farmed until starting T.M.'s Tree Service in June 2005.

Todd and Dana Pruett were united in marriage on Aug. 5, 2006, at their home in Castana.

He was a member of Soldier Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed. He was very active in the community and was a volunteer on the Castana Fire Department and served as safety officer. Todd was very interested and actively involved in many demolition derbies as well as deer hunting. He officiating the combine demo at the Monona County Fair in August of this year.

Survivors include his wife, Dana of Castana; his parents, Eugene and Shirley Melby of Castana; his children, Nick of Onawa, Erin of South Sioux City, Heather, April, Chris, Jon and Jessica, all of Castana; a grandchild, Dalston of South Sioux City; and two brothers, Phillip and his wife, Kerry of Sioux City, and Stephen of Castana.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
