ONAWA, Iowa -- Robert "Bob" Murphy, 77, of Clive, Iowa, formerly of Onawa, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2007, at his home in Clive.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa, with the Rev. Patrick O'Kane officiating. Burial will be in Onawa Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a Scripture prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Bob was born May 1, 1930, in DePew, Iowa, to Eugene R. and Delphine (Neary) Murphy. He grew up in Emmetsburg, Iowa, and graduated from St. Mary's Academy in 1948. Bob spent a year in San Diego in the U.S. Navy.

After his military service, he lived in Omaha, where he met and married his bride, Margaret O'Day on May 1, 1954. To this union, six children were born. Bob and Margaret raised their children in Onawa, with Bob working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Bob lived in Onawa for more than 40 years before moving to Des Moines in October 2005, to be closer to his family.

Bob enjoyed being involved in the lives of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed his garden, household construction projects, playing cards and coffee shop time with friends. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his six children, 18 grandchildren and a great-granddaughter, Bob and Candy Murphy of Urbandale, Iowa, Peg and Steve McCracken of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Beverly Camery of Poulsbo, Wash., John and Debbie Murphy of Aurora, Colo., Maureen and Larry Baer of West Des Moines and Kathleen and Terry Johnson of Urbandale, Iowa, and their families.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; a son-in-law, Dave Camery; his parents; a brother; and three sisters.

Memorials are requested to be made to St. John's Catholic Church in Onawa
