ONAWA, Iowa -- Claude Evan Ball, 84, of Onawa died Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2008, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at United Methodist Church in Decatur, Neb., with the Rev. Philip Sloat and Evangelist Dale Wolf officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Rush Family Care Service in Onawa.

Claude was born Feb. 8, 1923, in rural Decatur, Thurston, County, the son of Claude and Myrtle (Marks) Ball. He attended the rural Ball Country School near his family home.

He and Bette Jane Hanneman were united in marriage in Dakota City, on July 11, 1942. He farmed west of Decatur until March 1960. They then moved to New Berlin, Wis., where he owned and operated his own gravel truck for 32 years. The couple retired and moved to Onawa in September 1992, where he resided until his death.

After retirement, he enjoyed being with his children and grandchildren. He always had a beautiful lawn and many beautiful flowers for everyone to enjoy.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 65 and one half years, Bette of Onawa; two daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Bob Kellogg and Jody and Tom Kellogg, all of Decatur; a son and his wife, Keith and Dawn Ball of Waukesha, Wis.; eight grandchildren, Rodney, Brenda, Shannon, Heidi, Casey, Keith, Kyle and Kim; 10 great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Savannah, Paydon, Megan, Austin, Dylan, Zachary, Hannah, Xander and Josie; two sisters, Luella Beck of Decatur and Lorraine Day of Union Grove, Wis.; three sisters-in-law, Agnes Ball of Franklin, Wis., Eula Ball of Milwaukee, Wis., and Janet Ball of Decatur; a brother-in-law, Frank Minton of Lyons, Neb.; a host of other relatives and friends; and his wonderful caregiver and friend, Denise VandenHull.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Virgil, Joe, Stephen, Jack and Hiram; and six sisters, Louise, Myrtle, Joan, Lucille, Bonnie and Mable.

Claude will be greatly missed by those who loved and knew him.
