Connie J. Miller

Connie J. Miller, 50, of Castana, Iowa, formerly of Sioux City, died Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, after battling cancer.

Upon donation of available organs, the body was cremated. A celebration of life memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at St. Johns United Methodist Church in Mapleton, Iowa, with the Rev. Fred Pilecki officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sergeant Bluff.

The former Connie J. Taylor was born May 28, 1957, in Sioux City, the daughter of Robert and Jolynne (Johnson) Taylor. She grew up in Sioux City, graduating from East High School in 1975. She was later employed by Western Iowa Tech, Terri Lockie, CPA, and for the past 15 years, at Buell Winter Mousel and Associates.

Connie married Keith W. Miller on Sept. 12, 1975, at Rustin Avenue Methodist Church in Sioux City. With this union, Jason R. Miller was born. The couple made their home in Sioux City until 2000, when they moved to their new and much anticipated home in Castana and celebrated their 25th anniversary.

Connie's passions were finding that great bargain at auction or a flea market, hiking the Loess Hills in her front yard with her dogs, Sam and Angel, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fresh water/deep sea fishing, camping in Mexico and Hawaii trips with the "Girls," all helping Keith on the dune buggies and restoring classic cars.

Connie was currently a member of Castana Firefighters Association and Ticonic United Methodist Church. While living in Sioux City, she was a volunteer member of the Sioux City Police Department Community Action Support Team (CAST) and American Red Cross (U232).

Connie lived by the motto, "Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and proclaiming, 'Wow, what a ride.'" Take time to enjoy life and live each day.

Survivors include her wonderful, caregiver husband of 32 years, Keith of Castana; son, Jason Miller of Mauston, Wis.; loving mother, Jolynne Taylor of Mauston, Wis.; brother, wife, niece and nephew, Tracy, Michele, Ashley and Jarrett Taylor of Mauston; brother, Terry; a fantastic mother-in-law, Joyce Miller of Sioux City; two brothers-in-law, Brian and Scott Miller; a sister-in-law, Leola Miller, all of Sioux City; the "Girls" from Phoenix, Leisa, Melinda and Cindy, Brenda and Judy of Sioux City and Colette from California, who were all a tremendous support system, as well as all of the numerous friends, church members and neighbors in the Castana area.

Connie was preceded in death by her father; grandparents; uncles; aunts; and a very best friend, Mary, who she is looking forward to "hanging out" with.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial donations to your favorite charity or Burgess Hospice in Onawa.
