Ben J. Dunham

ONAWA, Iowa -- Ben J. Dunham, 77, of Onawa died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at his home.

Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Rush Family Chapel in Onawa, with Pastor Catie Newman officiating. There will be no visitation or burial.

Ben J. Dunham was born Sept. 10, 1930, at Onawa, the son of Benjamin F. and Pearl L. (Conrad) Dunham. He was raised in Onawa and graduated from Onawa High School. Ben attended the University of Iowa and earned a bachelor of science degree in business in 1952 before joining his father at Dunham Clothing in Onawa.
Ben and Betty Mustard were united in marriage on Oct. 12, 1952, in Onawa. The couple made their home and raised their children in Onawa. They continued Dunham Clothing until Ben's retirement in 1991. He was employed at the Department of Human Services, MCI, West Central Development and Head Start at Pisgah, Iowa.

He was a member of Onawa United Methodist Church, Onawa Country Club and a 50-year member of Vesper Lodge 223 AF & AM. Ben enjoyed living and had many interests, golfing, cross country skiing, running, reading, bird watching and was also an avid Hawkeyes fan.

Survivors include his wife, Betty; four children, Liz Dunham and her husband, Blan Palmer of Germany, Bill and his wife, Teri Dunham of Naperville, Ill., Phil and his wife, Penny of Kennesaw, Ga., and Sue Ray of Roswell, Ga.; four grandchildren, Tyler Dunham, Jake Dunham, Jordan Jane Ray and John Patrick Ray; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George Dunham; and a sister, Jean Beedle.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Burgess Hospice.
