The Obituary of Claude O Brown

Claude O Brown, a lifetime resident of the Turin, Iowa Community passed from this life at the Onawa Hospital on Monday November 28, 1960. He had been a patient there since Friday when he suffered a heart attack.

He was born April 8, 1886 on the Brown farm south of Turin, a son of Oscar and Leila Brown.
Throughout his lifetime he engaged in farming until his retirement a few years ago.

On March 28, 1906 he was united in marriage to Nettie M Jensen at Turin. To this union 11 children were born, 9 of whom survive.

The survivors include his widow, Nettie, 5 daughters, Mrs Opal Dahlberg of Omaha, Nebraska: Mrs Iila Brown of Council Bluffs, Iowa: Mrs Virgie Young of Seattle, Washington: Mrs Bernice Riley of Castana, Iowa and Mrs Patty Ehlers of Omaha, Nebraska: 4 sons, Bruce of Omaha, Nebraska, Dale of Buena Vista, Colo, Donald E of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Syril Brown of Turin, He is also survived by 28 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, one brother Thayer E Brown of Turin, Iowa along with a number of other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 children, one son in infancy and one daughter, Garnett at age 11, 2 sisters, Mrs Edna Baker and Mrs Fay Rowland and one brother, Harl Brown.

Mr Brown ws a Veteran of WWI where he served in the US Army overseas in France. He had also been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a member of the David McNeill Post # 129 of the American Legion of Onawa.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev Paul R Johnson at the Pearson Funeral Home on Thursday December 1st at 2 p.m.. Magnus Jepson sang "In the Garden" and "No Night There" accompanied at the organ by Mrs Magnus Jepson.

The casket bearers were Thayer Brown II, Vernon Brown, Sidney, Paul and Earl Rowland and Robert Butler.

Interment was in the Belvidere Cemetery at Turin where the David McNeill Post # 129 of Onawa conducted Military rites.
