Auto Accident Kills Two
Claude Marsh and J. Smith Lose Lives When Autos Hit Near Correctionville Sunday Night

Claude G. Marsh of Mapleton and J. Smith of Correctionville were instantly killed last Sunday evening when the auto in which Mr. Smith was taking his family and Mr. Marsh out for a ride was struck by an auto driven by a farm boy of the neighborhood of Correctionville. The autos hit almost at right angles and the Smith car was overturned and Mr. Marsh and Mr. Smith were killed instantly. The driver of the other car was uninjured and the balance of the occupants of the first car outside of numerous bruises were uninjured.

Mr. Marsh’s body was brot to Mapleton to the family home Monday. The funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from St. John’s M.E. church and the burial was in St Clair cemetery at Ute.

Mr. Marsh who was past thirty-four years of age was born at Rodney, Ia. And spent all of his life, with the exception of three years in Missouri, in this vicinity. Last June he was married to Miss Sophie Jensen and since then has resided in Mapleton. He was an excellent workman and at the time of the accident had went to Correctionville to do some special work on the Hancock farm of which Mr. Smith was the tenant. He was in a happy mood when he left here Sunday afternoon and was planning on returning here Wednesday to register for the draft.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his father George Marsh, Brewster, Minn: his sister, Mrs. Cloe DeVault, Onawa, Iowa: his brothers Ted and Sidney of Graceville, Minn., and Clayton and Chester now in the army.
