Mrs. Charles Spaulding

Mrs. Spaulding was eighty seven years old at the time of her death. She and long been a sufferer from asthma, but it was old age which claimed her at last. She was born in Augusta, Me, March 12, 1833. Her maiden name was Lavina M Preble.

So her life nearly covered the spam of a century and her husband, Charles O Spaulding was born 100 years ago. They were married in New York in 1856. They lived in Michigan, homesteaded in Nebraska endured the pioneer hardships when grasshoppers ate everything that grew. Were in Sioux City when but a few families lived there. She was in California at the time of the earthquake. She has lived in Monona County thirty years.

She was a hard working wife and mother. Seven children were born to them, four sons and three daughters. Her father was a minister. She was buried in the Onawa Cemetery, March 17, 1920. Rev J.C. Treat of the Congregational church conducted the funeral services at the home, using the message of the twenty-third Psalm.
