William Fredrick Kroll, son of Gottlieb Kroll and his wife, Alvena, was born September 26, 1877, the second oldest in a family of 12, at Chicago, Illinois. He was baptized by Pastor Reincke there.
The family moved to Iowa, then back to Illinois, later moving back to Iowa when he was nine and settling in Crawford County. He was confirmed by Pastor Amstein of Charter Oak. On February 28, 1900 he married Emma Bockelmann in Charter Oak. Three children, two daughters and one son, the later died in infancy, were born to them.
They lived for ten years on a farm north of Ute, before going to Dallas, South Dakota, where they lived for two years. They then returned to the Ute vicinity.
He was stricken with a heart ailment shortly before Christmas. A second attack brought about his death Wednesday, February 8, 1956 at the age of 78.
Survivors are the widow, two daughters, Mrs Alvena Hennings of Castro Valley, California, Mrs Erna Gallegos of Los Angeles, California, three sisiters, Mrs Lena Borcherdt of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Mrs Minnie Wellner of Ute and Mrs. Augusta Roost of Onawa, Iowa: five brothers, Otto of Ute, Reinhardt and Chris both of Onawa, Frank of Ricketts and Arthur of Dunlap, Iowa and three grandchildren.
Funeral service were held Saturday, February 11, 1956 at 2:00 p.m. at the St Paul's Lutheran Church at Ute. Rev Hugo Nieting officiated and burial was made at St John's cemetery at Charter Oak, under the direction of Byers-Walter service.
Pallbearer were Roy Borcherdt, William Kuhlman, Darl Borcherdt, Ferdinand Kuhlman, Clarence Kroll and Henry Shroeder.
