Fouts Funeral Home:

Ethel L. Hartwig, 79, of Dunlap, died July 4, 2000, at Westmont Care Center, Logan, Ia.

Ethel was born August 29, 1920, to Olius B. and Bertha (Evenson) Olson in Willow Township, Monona County, IA. She attended country school in Monona County and Dunlap High School.

On January 4, 1940, Ethel married Lloyd K. Hartwig in Logan. The couple farmed west of Dunlap. Lloyd died July 4, 1961. Ethel then moved into Dunlap. In 1997, Ethel became a resident of the Westmont Care Center in Logan. Ethel took great pride in her home, flowers and family. She loved to play cards, music and dancing.

Ethel was confirmed at the Soldier Lutheran Church on November 24, 1934. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she had been active in the WELCA.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three brothers, Virgil, Russell, and Lyle.

Ethel is survived by three sons, Ronald Hartwig and wife Delores of Logan, IA., Gary Hartwig and wife Rose of Gretna, NE., Allen Hartwig of Dunlap, IA; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Edith Heistand of Dunlap, IA and Irene Pedersen of Denison, IA; one brother, Raymond Olson of Dow City, IA; sisters-in-law, Ester Olson of Denison, IA, Pat Schrad of Arcadia, IA and Phyllis and husband Vernon Hawn of Hanford, CA, and many other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers for the funeral were: Christopher Hartwig, Eric Hartwig, Fritz Baldwin, Jeffrey Hartwig, Jim Walsh, Bill Heaps and Calvin Leaders.
