MAPLETON, Iowa - Alice M. Moore, 88, of Mapleton died Tuesday, July 1, 1997, at the Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Mapleton, with the Rev. Edgar Bode officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m, at the Armstrong Funeral Home in Mapleton.

Mrs. Moore was born June 1, 1909, in Soldier, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Anna (Melby) Evenson. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She graduated from Soldier High School and later attended business school in Omaha, Neb., where she played in the National Basketball Tournament.

She married Howard Moore in 1939, in Elk Point, S. D. the couple lived in Moorhead, Soldier and Des Moines, Iowa. In 1944, the couple moved to Mapleton. He died August 1958. She was employed at the Dairyland Cafe, the Home Cafe and the Ben Franklin Store.

She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, a charter member of the Lutheran Church Women and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League.

Survivors include, four sons, Roland and his wife, Beverly of Sioux City, Roger of Mapleton, Jim and his wife, Judy of Fort Collins, Colo., and Jerry and his wife, Pat of Crete, Neb.; two daughters and their husbands, Roberta and Robert Conyers of Mapleton and Frances and Wendell Hanson of LeMars, Iowa; two brothers and their wives, Lloyd and Helen Evenson of Hollywood Calif. and Martin and Vivian Evenson of Onawa, Iowa; a sister and her husband, Gladys and Don Kroll of Ashville, N.C.; 19 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Dennis Moore; a brother, Conrad; and three infant brothers.
