Funeral services were held at the Soldier Lutheran Country Church Friday, March 21, for Mrs. Adolph Melby, 73. Mrs. Melby died at her home near Moorhead March 19, 1958. Funeral services were conducted by Pastor John C. Kilde. Burial was at the Soldier cemetery under the direction of the Oldham Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were all nephews, Glenn Olson, Robert Melby, Milton Melby, Clifford Thoreson, Harlow Wingate and Virgil Olson. Music was furnished by Mrs. Norman C. Hanson and Mrs. Ted Lee accompanied by Mrs. Harry Anderson at the organ.
Lena Evenson Melby, daughter of Hans and Karin Evenson, was born in Willow township near Soldier Jan. 18, 1885. She was baptized and confirmed at the Soldier Lutheran Church and lived in that vicinity all her life.
August 30, 1906 she was united in marriage to Adolph Melby at Onawa. To this union 13 children were born, three dying in infancy. On September 2, 1956 Mr. and Mrs. Melby held open house at the country church in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary.
She is survived by her husband and ten children, five sons, Kenneth, Arnold, and Willard of Dunlap, Leonard of Moorhead and Dale of Woodbine; five daughters, Mrs. Richie Andrews of Moorhead; Mrs. Ray Burson of Council Bluffs; Mrs. Claude Price of Sioux City; Mrs. Earl Weber and Mrs. Leo Hull of Dunlap; 39 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren, also one sister, Mrs. Bertha Olson of Dunlap
