From the Onawa Weekly Democrat, Onawa, (Monona), Iowa, Thursday, April 3, 1947, Page 8, Column 6:

Long-Time Resident of Whiting, Iowa, Died Tuesday, April 1st

Mrs. Jennie Carter, 84, a resident of Monona County for 70 years died at her home in Whiting Tuesday morning after a few hours illness. Mrs. Carter was born February 10, 1863 at Rockport, Missouri. At the age of two years she came to this county, residing near Ticonic. She later lived at Glenwood for 12 years and then returned to Monona County. She was a member of the Whiting Christian church and the Whiting Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include the daughters, Miss Blanche Carter of Sioux City; Miss Jocy Carter of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Miss Ada Carter of Whiting; one son Roscoe Carter, of Washington, D. C.; and one brother, C. L. Henderson of Sioux City, Iowa; a number of other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held on Thursday April 3rd, at 2:30 p.m., at the residence in Whiting with Rev. Homer Watkins of Sioux City officiating.

Dorothy Brooks and Maxine Cummins gave comfort in song accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Louie Langren. Mrs. Roy Pratt, Mrs. Lou Broughton and Mrs. P. C. Waugh were in charge of the flower arrangements.

Pallbearers were Harold Anderson, Glen Deyloff, Will Kratz, P. C. Waugh, Harold Worrell and Ben Skidmore, Sr. Interment was in the Whiting cemetery. Arrangements in charge of the Pearson Funeral Home.

(Note: Jennie Henderson Carter died 1 Apr 1947.)
