VETERAN MUSICIAN DIES HERE

Harold W. Henderson, 84, 3123 McDonald St., a long-time public official and Sioux City musician, died suddenly Thursday morning at his home.

Mr. Henderson was born March 30, 1894, in Rodney, Iowa. He graduated from Castana, Iowa High School in 1911 and National Business Training School in Sioux City in 1913. He moved to Sioux City in 1913. He married Rita E. Diehl August 29, 1923, in Sioux City. Henderson was elected city assessor in 1948, serving in that office until his retirement.

Prior to that, he served as Woodbury County clerk of the district Court from 1913 to 1932 and was a member of the Woodbury County Board of Supervisors from 1937 to 1948. He practiced law in Sioux City from 1933 to 1936.

Mr. Henderson served in the Regimental Band 337th Field Artillery, U. S. Army, during World War I. He was a charter member of American Legion Monahan Post 64 and the Monahan Post Band. He continued as an active member of the Municipal Band. He was a 50-year member of Morningside Lodge 615 AF and AM and a member of the Sioux City Consistory, Abu-Bekr Shrine Temple, the Shrine band, First Presbyterian Church and choir, and the Woodbury County and Iowa State Bar Associations. He was secretary of the Sioux City Musicians Union.

Survivors include the widow; a daughter, Mrs. June Roberts of Sioux City; a sister Helen Henderson of Billings, Mont.; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services are pending at Nelson-Berger Northside Funeral Home.
