Owen F Holsclaw Dies

Owen F Holsclaw, a resident of the Onawa community for many years, died Tuesday, December 27 at the Burgess Memorial hospital. He was born December 6, 1893 at Bellevue, Nebraska, a son of John and Tillie Holsclaw. At the time of his death he had reached the age of 73 years and 21 days.

Earlier in life he had been a resident of Onawa and then for several years lived in the Moorhead, Ticonic and Little Sioux community. For the past 25 years he had made his home in Onawa.

He was a painter by vocation. He was affiliated with the First Christian Church of Onawa. Mr Holsclaw was united in marriage to Rosa Mathison on February 22, at Sioux City.

Survivors are daughters Margaret, now Mrs Vernon Thomson of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Mrs John Donahue of Georgetown: two sons, Earnest E of Onawa and Lynn of Jefferson, Iowa: eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren: two sisters, Mrs Fannie Estes of St Paul, Minn and Mrs Amanda Hoagland of Valvern: a number of other relatives and a host of friends throughout this community.

Funeral services were held at 2 P.M. Friday December 30 at the First Christian Church in Onawa with Rev. Everett Epperson officiating. Claudia Harris sang "Going Down the Valley" with Jane Reynolds as organist.

Bearers were Robert Bellis, Willis Comfort, Merle Shultz, Frank Fairwell, Harlan Grandgenett and Ora Townsend. Interment was in the Jordan Cemetery with arrangement by the Pearson Funeral home in Onawa.
