Mrs. Bertha Boyd, 86, Blencoe, Passes Away After Brief Illness

Mrs. Bertha Boyd, a resident of Blencoe, died Sunday, January 2, at her home in Blencoe after a brief illness. She was born September 5th, 1868, in Luxemborg, Germany and came to America at the age of four, settling first with her family in Indiana. She came to Monona County about 60 years ago, to the community northwest of Onawa. Forty years ago she moved with her family to the Blencoe community where she had since made her home.

She was 86 years of age at the time of her death.
She was married to Vitalis Boyd March 1, 1894.

She was a member of the Blencoe Congregational church and the ladies aid.

Survivors include four daughters, Mrs Etta Comfort of Blencoe: Mrs. Carl Corning, Denver, Colorado: Miss Gertrude Boyd of Blencoe: and Mrs. Florence Mathews of Salina. Kansas: two sons Ernest of Soldier: and Virgil at Detroit, Michigan: 12 grand children and 11 great grand children: two brothers and five sisters. Her husband and two children preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Blencoe Congregational church with Rev. Barney Crockett officiating. Mrs. Dick Cartmell and Mrs. Gordon Rock sang “Rock of ages” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere” accompanied by Mrs. Harry Williams.

Bearers were: Hugh Gray, Gordon Rock, Forrest Sanders: John Comfort, John Harms and Marvin Keele.

Interment was in the Harrison cemetery at Whiting. Arrangements by Pearson Funeral Home.
