Mrs. M. J. Kelley passes from this life at age of 65 years-Was an early settle here.
Death came Monday, March 3, 1930, to relieve the suffering of Mrs. M. J. Kelley at the age of 65 years, who was afflicted with cancer, but the severeness of the malady was not generally known until a short time previous to her death. Mrs. Kelley had been a well known resident of Ute and community since her early girlhood.
Funeral services were conducted from the M.E. Church on Tuesday afternoon, Rev. George Scheider preaching the sermon and the burial was in St. Clair cemetery beside the grave of her mother, Mrs. E. A. Stapleton. The following obituary was read at the funeral service.
Mary Jane Maria Kelley was born to Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Stapleton in Appanoose county, Iowa, January 10, 1865. When four years old she moved with her parents to a farm north of what is now Ute, where she lived and spent her girlhood. In 1881 she was united in marriage to John W. Kelley and to this union were born eight children, five sons and three daughters, one son dying in infancy. She died March 3, 1930, at 5:45 a.m. Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her death four sons, Rolla of Ute; Clay of Soux City; Ellis of Danbury; Cecil of Sioux City; and three daughters, Pearl Davis of Turin, Mable Davis and June Wiltsey of Minneapolis; 21 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
