Julia H. Danforth Ross, the only daughter of David and Harriet Danforth, was born in the state of Vermont, June 2, 1846. Her mother died when she was a girl of fourteen years of age, and she kept the home for her father and three brothers (Two of whom preceded her in death) until Septmeber 12, 1865, when she was united in marriage with Charles E. Ross, one of the "boys in blue", who had just seen three years and six months in service, and with whom she lived until April 17, 1912, when he departed from this life to the life beyond. To them were born three children, Mrs Ada C. Willey and Walter C. Ross of Whiting, Ia and Mrs. Hattie Rowland of Anoka, Minn; all of whom live to mourn the loss of their dear mother. Besides these she is survived by one brother, J. N. Danforth of Minneapolis, MN, who was here for the funeral service; also twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. Mr and Mrs, Ross, with their three children, moved from Vermont into Kansas in 1878, coming from there to Monona County, Iowa in the fall of 1881.
She gave her heart to God in her early life and lived a consistent Christian life until the time of her death March 19, 1924, being at that time 77 years, 9 months and 14 days of age.
Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church, Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by the Pastor, C.D.Shoemaker, special music being furnished by Mrs. W. B. Whiting and Mrs. C. W. Beatty. The remains were laid to rest in the Whiting cemetery beside the grave of her husband.
