Norby, John Called by Death ~ 1931

John Norby passed quietly away at his home in Soldier early Sunday morning. Mr. Norby was not thought to be dangerously ill until a few days before his death.
John was prominently engaged in business here during the early days of the new town of Soldier. He came into the business world first through the firm of Norby & Dawson. This was one of the largest stores the town has ever had. Later the firm changed to Norby & Christensen and then to Norby & Erickson. After selling his general store, he continued in business here with the Ford agency when automobiles first become(sic) practical. When his health failed several years ago, Mr. Norby retired from active business.
Among those coming from a distance for the funeral were: Martin Norby and daughter of Battle Lake, Minn. and Adolph Norby and son of Ashby, Minn.
OBITUARY
John Norby was born August 15, 1870, at Urskog, Norway, and passed away at his home in Soldier, Iowa, May 31, 1931, at the age of 60 years, 9 months, and 16 days.
In the spring of 1880, he with his parents, 1 sister and 2 brothers, immigrated to this country, settling in the Soldier Valley where he grew to manhood, spending his young days sharing the hardships of pioneer life on farms south of Soldier. In the spring of 1900 he moved to Soldier where he has been engaged in various business enterprises since.
On May 1st, 1913, he was united in Holy Wedlock to Bertha Riste, to this union one son, Clifford John was born. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife and son, 3 sisters and 5 brothers, Ole, Edwin and Henry, Mrs. C. J. Rustin, and Mrs. O. L. Larson of Soldier; Martin of Battle Lake and Adolph of Ashby, Minn., and Mrs. J. O. Wangberg of Rolfe, Iowa, besides a host of relatives and friends.
