Rose Elsie Gibbs, 82, of Ute, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 10, 1985, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services were held on Friday, September 13, 1985, at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Charter Oak with Pastor James Gubser officiating. Burial was in St. Clair Cemetery in Ute, Iowa, under the direction of the Walter Funeral Home.
Mrs. Gibbs, the former Rose Schmidt was born December 8, 1902 to Gustav and Augusta (Neurenberg) Schmidt in Willow Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She was baptized as an infant and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Charter Oak, Iowa. She received her high school admission certificate on the 30th of August 1919 from Willow Township.
Rose was united in marriage to Herbert H. Gibbs on the 15 of March, 1930 at the Methodist Parsonage in Charter Oak, Iowa. They framed for 38 years on various farms in the Charter Oak, Dunlap and Ute areas. They were living on a farm south of Ute at the time of her husband’s death in August of 1968.
Since August of 1969 she has been a resident of Maple Heights Nursing Home in Mapleton. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Charter Oak and a past member of the Lucky 13 Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Dean (Ardis) Wilcox of Rapid City, South Dakota; two grandchildren, Cheryl Wilcox and Timothy Wilcox, both of Denver, Colorado; one great-granddaughter, Nicole Melissa Wilcox of Denver, Colorado; one brother, Arnold Schmidt of Charter Oak.
Pallbearers were Gary Gibbs, Darrell Mitchell, Erwin Knutzen, Wesley Seieroe, Wade Cooper and Leo Fester.
