Pete Wright Sr., was born on a farm south of Onawa, Iowa, on November 16, 894, and passed from this life on Tuesday evening, May 19, 1959. Death came as a result of an accident. He had reached the age of 64 years.
He was a veteran of World War 1, having served in the United States Army during that time. He chose farming as his vocation and spent his lifetime in this type of work.
On November 16, 1921, he was united in marriage with Cora Trimble at Onawa. To this union seven children were born.
Survivors are his wife, Cora, five sons, James of Onawa, Donald of Blencoe, Chester, Albert and Pete, Jr., all of Onawa; two daughters, Mrs. Rose Perry and Mrs. Margaret Hall, both of Onawa; seven grandchildren; two borthers, Nelson Wright and Alfred Wright, both of Onawa; and two sisters, Mrs. Kate Ooten of Onawa and Mrs. Isabel Stanley of Primghar, Ia. There are a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church in Onawa on Friday, May 22nd at 2pm. Rev. Everett Epperson conducted the services. Mrs. Orland Ferris sang "Precious Lord, Take my Hand", and "Just a Closer Walk with Thee"; accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Carl Linden. Casket bearers were George Bentley, Elmer McClure, Ralph Jones, Fred Beedle, Dewey Beedle and Verne Rounds, Sr. Graveside services were conducted at the Kennebec cemetery at Castana with David McNeill Post of the American Legion, No. 129 conducting military rites.
