Fred Hatt was born on April 24, 1857 near Berlin, Germany. He died November 6, 1937 at Onawa Iowa at the age of 80 years, 6 months and 12 days.

At the age of 20 he left his native country and came to America: July 29, 1862 he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Hohenstein at Onawa, Iowa. To this union six children were born. The eldest died in infancy: Wm now lives near Smithland, Iowa, Frank and Albert in Sioux City and Fred Jr. in Onawa, and Mrs. Edith (RR) Grane (Grant) in Sioux City.

His wife preceeded him in death on September 1, 1917.

As a boy he was confirmed by the German Lutheran Church in Germany.

(?)of the past 60 years he has been one of Monona County's substantial farmers. Besides his immediate relatives, he leaves to mourn his departure a host of friends and acquaintances.
