The Norman Allen Family, p 85-86

Norman Allen, the son of Harvey Allen and Millisa Nickerbocker, was born January 15, 1841 in Potter County, Pennsylvania. He was the oldest child of six born to Harvey and Millisa. Norman left Pennsylvania at the age of fifteen, when his family moved to Illinois. Norman emigrated west traveling to Iowa by steamboat and covered wagon. He arrived in the early 1860s and settled in Lee County.

Norman married Lottie Rachel Hicks in 1867 and brought his bride to Maple Township in Monona County. They had two daughters, Mary Jane was born in 1872 and Emma B. was born in 1873. Lottie passed away in 1873.

Norman had two step daughters from his second marriage. They were Etta Mae Dunbar and Charlotte Catherine Dunbar. Norman married their mother, Rosana Charlotte King, on November 9, 1878. Norman and Rosana had three children. They were Mabel Maude born in 1850, Perry Frederick born in 1883, and Josephine P. born in 1886. Rosana Catherine passed away at the age of 37, on September 10, 1894.

Norman had one regret, that being that he was unable to serve in the Civil War due to illness. Norman was a faithful member of the Methodist church of Ticonic. Norman loved to take long walks and to visit with friends. Norman had also made a miniature wooden globe which he used in lectures in astronomy, which he took a great interest in.

Norman was preceded in death by his wives, his son Perry, and his step daughter, Etta. At the time of his death, Norman was living at the home of his daughter, Mabel. Norman passed away at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, 1942 at the age of 101 years and one month. Norman left to mourn his passing, four daughters and a step daughter, 12 grandchildren, 89 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Submitted by: Michael A. Snyder.
