STEPHEN AND JOAN ALLEN

Stephen W. Allen, son of Sewell E. and Frances Whiting Allen, was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on December 22, 1943. He grew up in Onawa and attended Onawa High School where he graduated in May of 1962. He attended the University of Iowa receiving a B.A. degree and his Law Degree in 1969. He moved back to Onawa in 1969 where he practiced law with his father as a partner in the Allen and Allen Law Firm. In 1970 he was elected as County Attorney for Monona County. After his father's death in 1975, Stephen continued the private practice and his County Attorney's term until 1978.

On July 1, 1978, Stephen W. Allen joined the practice of Patrick. J. Morrow and Donald Capotosto, and they formed the firm of Morrow, Allen & Capotosto which has been in existence since that time. Stephen Allen has served as President of the Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, the Monona County Democratic Central Committee, the Monona County Bar Association and as Chairperson for the Monona County March of Dimes, and as a member of the Masonic Lodge, the Onawa Jay-Cees, and the Onawa Community Players.

Stephen W. Allen married Joan Annette Shook on August 11, 1962. Joan is the daughter of Ival E. and Mary Ping Shook. She was born in Sioux City on January 2, 1945. Growing up in Onawa, Joan attended Onawa High School. Then, she attended the University of Iowa where she received her B.A. degree in 1968. She also completed one year towards her Master's Degree before moving back to Onawa with her husband in 1969.

After returning to Onawa, Joan taught high school English at Westwood High School in Sloan, Iowa, from 1970 through 1974. In 1978 she began her duties as Board Secretary to the West Monona Community School District's Board of Education.

She has served as President of the Monona County Democratic Central Committee and the Onawa Community Players.

Joan and Stephen W. Allen had two children: Thomas Whiting Allen born 2/10/1963, and Anthony Michael Allen born 12/6/1969.
