The sad news has just reached us, of the death of Mr. Thomas Campbell one of the pioneers of Rock.

Mr. Campbell came here from Stoughton, Wis., in May, 1865, and settled on a farm seven miles from Mitchell, the farm now owned by Ed Pahl. At that time Rock township was a wilderness, with settlers many miles apart. It was something of an undertaking in those days to develop a farm, where rattlesnakes and wolves were daily visitors.

Mr. Campbell died February 8, at Birmingham, Ala., at the home of his youngest son, Judge Campbell, where he and his wife had made their home the past two years. Had he lived until May, he would have reached the age of 77 years. -- Press.
