.... same paper & date, on page 3:

Another Old Settler Gone - Mr. John Aller died Thursday morning, May 31st, after a painful sickness of nearly six months duration.

Mr. Aller came to Mitchell in the summer of 1863, and has lived here most of the time since. He was a man of strong individuality, and exhibited traits of character somewhat eccentric and peculiar, but under all, he was kind hearted, and meant to b governed by the principles of virtue and of the gospel.

He was for many years a worthy member of the M.E. church, and died supported by the consolation of the religion which he had so long professed. The funeral services were held at the Methodist church on Friday, conducted by Rev. Geo. Elliott who preached a very effective sermon from the text "prepare to meet thy God."

The "old settlers" cannot help remembering that their ranks are being sadly broken up, and very soon all who came here prior to Jan. 1855 will have passed away. But such is life. One generation follows another in quick succession.
