Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for a lifelong resident of Mitchell county, Ingwald A. Halvorson, 80, who died at Mercy hospital in Mason City last Wednesday. Mr. Halvorson, a resident of a Mason City nursing home for 23 months was taken to the hospital last Tuesday.
The Rev. Obert Hoven and the Rev. R. M. Christensen, associate pastors, were in charge of the services at Our Savior's Lutheran church. C.R. Champion and Sons made the arrangements. Burial was in the Halvorson family cemetery, known as Riverside cemetery, south of St. Ansgar.
Ingwald Adrian Halvorson was born April 12, 1883, in St. Ansgar, the son of Ole and Bertha Olson Halvorson. He was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran church, St. Ansgar, Iowa by the Rev. Johann Olson. He attended St. Ansgar public schools and seminary, and St. Olaf college in Northfield, Minn.
He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Christianson in Osaga, June 16, 1920 by the Rev. C.P. Heltne.
A member of Our Savior's Lutheran church, Mr. Halvorson was active in affairs of the church from the time he came to Osage in 1919 as long as his health permitted. He served as Sunday school teacher and superintendent and was secretary of the congregation for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Ellen, one son, Louis of Osage and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Calvin, two brothers and one sister.
