PEDER BRENNA DIED LAST FRIDAY AFTER LINGERING ILLNESS
Peder Brenna passed away last Friday at the Oswald Johnson farm home near St. Ansgar, after being in ill health for a number of years. The Brenna family lived in Osage until about five years ago and owned and occupied the residence on north Seventh street now owned by S.J. Klemesrud.
Peder Olaus Brenna was born at Gimso, in Lofoten, Norway, July 20, 1859.
In 1882 he emigrated to America and came to Northfield, Minn. but located at Kenyon, Minn., where he remained four years. He then moved to North Dakota and for two years resided near Portland. From that point he went to Montana.
On April 22, 1802, he was united in marriage with Annie Grove at Great Falls, Mont. and the next year they came to Iowa. For ten years they lived on the farm, near St. Ansgar, which had been the parental home of Mrs. Brenna. In 1903 they located on a farm north of St. Ansgar, where they remained until 1914 when they moved to Osage. About five years ago they sold their Osage home and have since lived with married daughters.
Seven years ago Mr. Brenna suffered a stroke which left him partially crippled. Four years ago a second stroke weakened him but he rallied remarkably. A third stroke, a short time ago, coupled with resulting complications, led to the end which came last Friday, June 10. He was then living at the home farm with the Oswald Johnsons. In July he would have attained his 73rd birthday.
The remarkable endurance with which he had borne his infirmities for years characterized his last illness. He awaited his lease with Christian resignation and patient hope.
Mr. Brenna is survived by his wife, two daughters, Getta ( Mrs. Rufus Anderson) of Austin, Minn., Ida (Mrs. Oswald Johnson) St. Ansgar and one son, Oscar of St. Ansgar. There are four grandchildren. Surviving also are two brothers, Rijard in Norway and George of St. Ansgar, two sisters, Anna Severton-Brenna and Gerharda Jacobson-Svolver, both of Lofoten, Norway.
Funeral services were held June 13 at the home at 1:30 and at the First Lutheran church at St. Ansgar. Interment was in the Norwegian Lutheran cemetery at that place.
