MEMORIAL ID 57663447 (Notice in the Holdenville Times Friday, July 22, 1904.) Mrs. Oscar S. Penny is dead. One of the saddest deaths which it has been our duty to chronicle occured in this city Saturday night at 11:20, when EDITH TRESSIDER WHITE PENNY, wife of OSCAR S. PENNY, assistant cashier of the First National Bank, passed peacefully away after an illness of just a week. She was preceded by a week's time into the great beyond by her infant baby boy, into whose eyes she was never permitted to look.

Mrs. Penny was 24 years and eight months old, and had been married about 16 months; her entire married life, which had been un usually happy and bright, having been spent in Holdenville. She not only had many friends, and all who knew her were her friends, but those who knew her best loved her as few friends were loved. She was a bright, cheerful, loving wife, caring more for her home and husband than all else. It seems so sad that one who had so much to live for, whose life was so full of promise, and whose very presence inspired hope and a determination for better things, should be cut down at the very threshold of her career.

But Mrs. Penny's many friends may be cheered in this hour by the fact that she was a faithful and devoted Christian, having been a member of the M. E. Church South and taking an active part in church work.

During her illness Mrs. Penny was at the home of her husband's sister, Mrs. W. J. Smith, where all that loving hearts and willing hands could do was done for her. It was there a short funeral service conducted by Rev. J. L. Bray, was held on Monday afternoon at 5 o'clock. On the 7 o'clock train that night the body was taken to Osage, Iowa, her former home, for burial. The body was accompanied by Mr. Penny and Mrs. John H. White, mother of Mrs. Penny, she having arrived here on Thursday of last week and remained till the end.

The floral tributes were many and beautiful. The Ladies' Aid Society, of which Mrs. Penny had been a member, presented several floral pieces, and when the hearse started for the depot, walked behind it in a body and remained until the train, which was 30 minutes late, had departed.
